Osun Government Launches Osogbo Groove

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke says the images on stamps tell stories of significant events and remind the people of what shaped their present.
Governor Adeleke stated this at the official presentation and launch of the Osun Osogbo Grove, UNESCO World Heritage Commemorative Postage Stamp, held at Local Government Service Commission Hall, Abere, Osun State.
The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye maintained that Stamps are more than just tools for mailing letters, they are symbols that capture the essence of history.
“In Osun State, we are proud custodians of one of the nation’s greatest treasures—the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove. This historical site represents the cultural and spiritual heritage of our people. It is therefore, our duty to protect and promote it, ensuring that future generations, both in Nigeria and across the world, can visit and appreciate its beauty and significance.
Governor Adeleke said as part of his commitment to making Osun State a compelling destination for business, commerce, tourism, development, education, and entertainment, he will be sending Osun-Osogbo Grove postcards to several international leaders, business executives, and civic leaders, inviting them to explore the rich potential of our state.
He appreciated the Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST and Philately Nigeria for recognizing the Osun-Osogbo Grove and for the privilege of being named Grand Patron of Nigeria Philately.
In her remarks, the Postmaster General of the Federation, Mrs. Tola Odeyemi said the unveiling of a stamp, is a celebration of Nigeria identity, a tribute to the nation’s heritage, and a commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s cultural treasures.
Mrs. Odeyemi represented by the Deputy Director of Operations, NIPOST, Mrs. Adetoun Fagbemi, commended Governor Adeleke for recognition of postage stamps as both a powerful communication tool and an instrument for promoting tourism, demonstrates a profound understanding of how culture and development intersect.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Biyi Odunlade had noted that the Osun Osogbo Grove stands as a symbol of the enduring legacy of the ancestors and the continuity of the state’s cultural practices, urging Nigerians to be committed to promoting the nation’s cultural heritage.
Highlight of the event was decoration of the Governor as Grand Patron of Nigeria Philately, unveiling of commemorative Stamps and distribution of Postcards to attending schools and guests.
