6 Years After, Court Sentences Offa Robbery Suspects To Death

A Kwara State High Court has sentenced five suspects involved in the notorious 2018 Offa robbery case to death by hanging.

 

The ruling was delivered by Justice Haleema Salman on Thursday afternoon, following the prosecution’s successful presentation of evidence against the defendants.

 

The court convicted the suspects on three charges: illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit culpable homicide punishable by death.

 

In her ruling, Justice Salman ordered that The five suspects be hanged to death to serve as a lesson to others.

 

 

The convicted suspects are Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye, and Adeola Abraham.

 

 

Briefing journalists, the prosecution counsel said various reasons ranging from the COVID-19 period and national assignment given to the judge informed the long process and thanked the court for the judgement.

 

However, the defence counsel representatives said the judgement would soon be appealed.

 

The robbery, which took place in April 2018, saw armed assailants invade Offa town, robbing at least five commercial banks.

 

The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of many individuals, including nine policemen, and involved the theft of an undisclosed sum of money.
