POWA Empowers Over 300 Wives Of Late Police Officers

Over three hundred spouses of fallen heros of the Nigeria police force have benefited from an empowerment program organized by the police officers wives association, POWA , Oyo state Chapter.

The event which was held at the police headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan was led by POWA chairperson and wife of Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs Doyinsola Ayo-Sonubi.

Mrs Ayo-Sonubi said the program became imperative to honour the families of the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in their line of duty.

“We gather here not only to celebrate the impactful work of POWA but also to honour the spirit of collaboration that drives us to address the needs of our community. In Oyo State, year in year out, POWA remains an indivisible family that stands together, come rain come shine”

“POWA also continuously lending a hand to

needy families and by extension, the larger community through initiatives such as sanitation exercises, relief aid during natural

disasters, campaign against drug abuse, child molestation , trafficking and cultism as well as gender-based violations”

Mrs Ayo-Sonubi explained that POWA was dedicated to providing humanitarian support to the families of slained police officers.

She noted that the association aimed to enhance the lives of these families, providing amenities and support through learning of some handiwork

The POWA boss said they also provided food stuffs including rice, beans, noddles, yam, Salt, groundnut oil and fabrics.

“We cater for 60 Late Police Officers’ Wives Association (LAPOWA) Members, 103 Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Members and 140 Police Wives Association (PWA)”

Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the kind gesture of POWA to them and believed that it would go a long way at reducing the untold hardship affecting them.

They therefore, appreciated the Nigeria police force for remembering them, despite the demise of their spouses and children.

Commenting, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Mr Ayodele Sonubi appreciated the POWA’s efforts at assisting the spouses of fallen heroes and urged them to take the training seriously to better their standard of living.

Earlier, declaring the event open, wife of the Oyo state Governor Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde appealed to people to always appreciate policemen for protecting lives and property of the citizens.

Mrs Makinde who appreciated POWA for the Support to the family of the fallen heroes of the police called on well meaning Nigerians to partner Police to make their job easier.

Highlights of the event included Awards of recognitions given to some distinguished personalities including the commissioner of police, Mr Ayodele Sonubi, wife of the Oyo state Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde as well as officers who stands out in the discharge of their duties.
