MDCAN SouthWest Zone Frowns At Non-Implementation Of CONMESS Salary Scale For Members

Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, SouthWest Zone including Edo State has expressed its displeasure with the non-payment of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, Scale for Clinical Lecturers as being obtained in other Zones of the Country.
Addressing Newsmen at the NMA House, Total Garden, Ibadan, Oyo State, Chairman of the Association, who is also a Consultant at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Dr. Afolabi Salawu said, the Association had earlier given the Management of the affected Universities a 21-Day Ultimatum before embarking on the ongoing strike when no significant progress was made.
Dr. Salawu added that, the non-implementation of the CONMESS salary structure by the Universities where they are teaching the Medical Students, was only peculiar to SouthWest Zone, hence, the need to correct what he described as injustice to them.
The MDCAN SouthWest Chairman, further demanded for payment of outstanding arrears for his Members who had been denied the CONMESS scale in the last four years.
He noted that the prolonged neglect had resulted in significant shortfalls in emoluments, entry-level and pension contributions as well as Healthcare Personnel Training.
Dr. Salawu urged the Federal Government, Governing Councils and Management of the affected Universities in the Southwest Zone to promptly address their demands to avoid further disruptions in Clinical Academic Activities.
Some of the affected Institutions are, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ifè, University of Benin, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, and Lagos State University.
Others are Osun State University, Osogbo, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, and Ambross Alli University, Ekpoma.
Also in attendance were: Vice President 2, National MDCAN, Dr. Sarah Ibiyemi, Chairman, MDCAN UCH Ibadan Chapter, Dr. Seyi Akande, Chairman OAUTHC, Professor Femi Ogundipe, Chairman LUTH Chapter, Dr. Kehinde Okunade, Caucus Secretary, Dr. Omotola Obajolowo
It will be recalled that Clinical Lecturers in the Southwest had withdrawn their services and embarked on industrial actions on 3rd of this Month.
