The All Progressives Congress, APC Peace Advocates in Oyo State has continued its reconciliation moves in a bid to ensure a successful outing in the 2027 election.

To this end, the group, dedicated to the fostering of peace, harmony and cohesion within the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo state recently visited Oyo geo-political zone.

Led by its co-conveners, Chief Wale Ohu and Prince Niran Adeyoju SDM, the Group met with Elders, Leaders and critical Stakeholders in the four Local Governments of Oyo geo-political zone on Monday, 7th of July, 2025.

The meeting which was well attended, held at the Oyo zonal office of the APC in Oyo town.

Members of the Peace Advocates, Rt. Hon. Dr. Akin Onigbinde SAN, Prince Gbade Lana, Hon. Dr. (Mrs) Peju Esan, Alhaji Raji Rasaki, Hon. Amzat Ogunsola, Engr. Wale Adeoye, Hon. Bimbo Kolade, who is also from Oyo zone and Hon. Afeez Bolaji Repete were also at the meeting.

The Oyo zonal meeting is made up of Elders, Leaders, elected and appointed office holders who are members of the Party, Local Government Party Chairmen, Women Leaders, Youth Leaders and Secretaries from the four Local Governments of Afijio, Atiba, Oyo West and Oyo East Local Governments.

Pa. CA Ajibade, the Oyo APC zonal Chairman, in his opening remarks, welcomed the Peace Advocates to Oyo town and confirmed that they have received positive information about the activities of the Group.

He said that Oyo zone of the APC was eagerly expecting their visit.

Hon. Bimbo Kolade, a member of the Peace Advocates informed the meeting that both Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi (Skimeh) were aware of the meeting and they had informed the Group through phone calls about why they would be unavoidably absent.

He went further to say that Engr. Idris Adeoye was aware of the meeting but he was also unavoidably absent and had informed the Group about the reasons for his absence.

After a brief introduction of the co-conveners, Chief Wale Ohu, Prince Niran Adeyoju SDM and other members of the Group by Hon. Amzat Ogunsola, Chief Wale Ohu addressed the gathering on behalf of the Oyo APC Peace Advocates.

Chief Ohu appreciated Oyo zone Stakeholders for their zeal towards the Party and reminded them that from time immemorial, Oyo zone belongs to the Progressives family.

He drew attention to the sequence of succession to the Agodi Government House since 1999 and declared that, going by that sequence, it is the turn of the Progressives to occupy the Government House in 2027, but we have to work hard for it.

He said the Group had identified fractionalization and divisions as the factors that led to the failures of Oyo APC in the 2023 gubernatorial and House of Assembly election, while promising that the Group has been working hard to ensure that the identified causes of the 2023 losses are completely addressed before 2027.

He told the meeting that members of the Group are neutral and will only support all candidates of the Party who have emerged through credible, free and fair processes.

He went further to say that the only way we would achieve peace and cohesion within the Party is to ensure, that the Congresses and Primaries of the Party are transparent, free and fair.

He gave the example of Ondo state where the gladiators eventually succumbed to the appeal by Party stakeholders, having been convinced that the process that threw up Governor Ayedatiwa was transparent and credible.

He said that Oyo APC Peace Advocates are clamouring for and working towards an open and fair process moving forward.

He said the next Party Congresses must be all inclusive and assured that the activities of the Group transcends Oyo state as they have also been reaching out to Abuja to ensure that whatever is achieved at home would not be overruled by external influences.

The responses from selected stakeholders to the message of the Peace Advocates are generally the same.

They thanked the Peace Advocates for their efforts and charged them not to deviate from the laudable objectives at the critical moment.

They emphasis the need for the strengthening of the Party’s structures.

Pa. Olaoye who responded on behalf of Oyo East Local Government regretted that we have been deviating from Progressives principles.

He referenced the unfortunate incident of 2023 where Progressives were seen, publicly voting for opposition candidates and urged the Peace Advocates to do all within its powers to see that such painful experiences are not repeated in 2027.

Apart from selected Party officials and Leaders who were on ground to receive the Peace Advocates, the following Elders were also in attendance, Pa.CA. Ajibade, zonal Chairman, Pa. Ojedele aka Gberefu, ( Secretary, Oyo zone), Alhaji Babalola, Alhaji Babatunde, (Vice Chairman), Pa. Sunday Elegbede, Alhaji Kazeem ( Omo Olomo), Pa. Olaoye and Hon. Mudasiru Ajeigbe.
