Oyo Lawmaker, Hon Oyekola Facilitates New Secondary School, Alaafin of Oyo Lays Foundation

In his bid to support quality education in a conducive environment for the students and teachers, a lawmaker representing Atiba State Constituency, who is also the Chief Whip, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola has laid the foundation for building of a newly government approved Secondary School in Oyo town.
The sod-turning ceremony which had in attendance, the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, co-lawmakers, Educationists, Political Associates and Community Leaders, was part of Hon. Oyekola’s efforts at aligning with the state government’s efforts of advancing educational infrastructure with a view to repositioning the Sector for the better.
While speaking, the facilitator, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola described the step of building the school as a targeted intervention towards addressing the increasing enrolment for Secondary education in the area.
Hon. Oyekola hinted that the classroom would be named after Alaafin of Oyo and the name of the School to be known as Oba Akeem Owoade High School, Elegbo Community.
“Education is the real path to the future as I believe that tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it. So, I made up my mind to build a befitting structure to demonstrate my passion for education in my Constituency and Oyo town in general”. Hon Oyekola said
When completed, the School is expected to accommodate hundreds of students with modern classrooms, Laboratories, a befitting Library, Administrative offices and ICT Centre.
The Oyo State House of Assembly Chief Whip disclosed that, the project which will commence immediately, is expected to be ready for the next academic session.
On his part, the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade commended the lawmaker, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola popularly known as “Eniyan Laso Mi” for his ingenuity to facilitate the classroom, thereby paving ways for younger generation to benefit and be useful for the nation building.
Oba Owoade said, Hon Oyekola took a giant stride towards development, calling for continued collaboration between political leaders and traditional Institutions in addressing the needs of the people.
While reacting, residents who could not hide their joy at the development, applauded Hon. Gbenga Oyekola for prioritising education of their children, stressing that the new school will definitely reduce overcrowding in the existing schools in the town.
They added that the initiative would ease the burden of families around Elegbo and its environment of sending their children and wards to a long-distanced school to access quality education.
