Oyo Govt Seals 15 Veterinary Outlets To Prevent Spread Of Zoonotic Disease

Fifteen veterinary outlets have been sealed in Oyo State.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in a routine inspection in Ibadan said the outlets operation violated law regarding registration of such outfits.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, through the Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Olaoye Olakunle maintained that the action was to protect animals and public health.
Citing 2017 law, he said all veterinary premises and practitioners are mandated to annually register with the government to ensure compliance to existing law.
While stating that the move was to check the spread of zoonotic diseases, the commissioner said goods worth millions of naira were also confiscated for violating provisions of the Oyo State Private Veterinary Premises and Veterinary Establishment (Regulation) Law, 2017.
Barrister Olaleye stressed the determination of the Government to prosecute any practitioner or outlet found breaching the law .
Barrister Olaleye added that private veterinary practitioners should regularize their operations to avoid any legal consequences .
