Written by on November 20, 2025

Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command has said there has not been any reported case of herdsmen attack and criminal assault along Osogbo- Iwo road.

Force Public Relations Officer in Osun state Mr. Abiodun Ojelabi, stated this in a Statement on Thursday .

Mr Ojelabi said the purported viral social media post is unfounded.

He said a road accident involving a Toyota Sienna driver on Tuesday and a bungle bus driver occurred. The collision damaged the Toyota Sienna’s bumper, but the occupants of the bus, refused to stop and continued their journey.

Mr Ojelabi explained further that the aggrieved driver raised an alarm and mobilized people along the road, accusing the two brothers in the bus of being kidnappers and thieves.

” On 18th November, 2025, at about 1230hrs, a Toyota Sienna vehicle hit the rear of a bungle bus with registration number EPE 449 YLY around the Gbongan axis. The bus was en route Benin, Edo State, to Osogbo, with male occupants as the driver and co-driver, respectively. The collision damaged the Toyota Sienna’s bumper, but the occupants of the bus, believing nothing was wrong with their own vehicle, refused to stop and continued their journey.

The Toyota Sienna driver, aggrieved by the refusal of the bus to stop and the visible damage to the bumper of his vehicle, raised an alarm and mobilized people along the road, accusing the two brothers in the bus of being kidnappers and thieves.

Following the false alarm,  angry mob  pursued and eventually blocked the bus. The mob attacked the two occupants, destroyed the vehicle and attempted to lynch them.” The statement reads.

The PPRO said the victims are safe and in protective custody and efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest members of the mob involved in the attempted jungle justice.

The PPRO cautioned the public against false alarms capable of causing public unrest.
