NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel Honours Federal Representative, Hon. Oyekunle ‘Don’, Lagelu LG Chairman, Hon. Kamorudeen

The Federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN), has been honoured with the People’s Mandate Award by Radio Nigeria Ibadan as part of activities marking the station’s 2025 NUJ Press Week held in Ibadan.
Also at the event, the executive chairman, Lagelu local government, Hon Mudashiru Kamorudeen was honoured with Rising Star Of grassroots leadership award, for his consistent contributions to grassroots development in Oyo state.
Hon. Oyekunle, who also served as Chairman of the occasion, commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Radio Nigeria Ibadan Chapel, for organizing what he described as a well-coordinated and impactful event.
He noted that journalism remains a critical pillar of democracy, emphasizing its role as the watchdog of society.
Speaking after receiving the award, the lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining a strong working relationship between journalists and the legislature.
According to him, “Journalists are the watchdog of every society. As a lawmaker who represents the interests of the people, there must always be a good synergy between both institutions to strengthen accountability, transparency, and good governance.”
The award was presented to Hon. Oyekunle by the Zonal Director of Radio Nigeria, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Programmes, Rev. Niyi Dahunsi.
Earlier, the chairman, Lagelu local government, Hon Mudashiru Kamorudeen appreciated the honour bestowed on him, noting that the award will spur him to do more for the good people of Lagelu local government.
He described the award as testament of his good works in his council which he said was born out of passion to serve diligently and passionately.

In his goodwill message, the chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chief Ademola Babalola enjoined the contestants in the forthcoming NUJ Oyo state council election to embrace peace.
Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman, FRCN chapel of the NUJ, Comrade Oluwakayode Banjo said FRCN remains the strongest, biggest and most vibrant chapel adding the the chapel have been upholding the ethics of the profession to the core and would continue to do so.
Comrade Banjo said the award recipients were carefully chosen based on their immense contributions to the development of the country.
He said the award was not only to recognize their outstanding performances, but also to motivate them to do more, as well as, encouraging other Nigerians in positions of influence to contribute their quota to national development.
Also speaking, the chairman, 2025 Radio Nigeria NUJ planning committee, Comrade Mosope Kehinde thank God for the success of the weeklong programme saying hard work, sacrifices, sleepless nights, patience and prayers were the pillars for the success of the events.
Comrade Mosope Kehinde appreciated the executive members for given him the opportunity to serve as the chairman organizing committee.
The event brought together media professionals, public officeholders, and stakeholders committed to advancing responsible journalism and democratic governance in Oyo State.
