OYHA Chief Whip, Hon Oyekola Resigns From PDP

Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, and a Member representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon Gbenga Joseph Oyekola, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, citing the unresolved internal crisis within the Party, particularly the recent litigations affecting the Party as one of the reasons.
Hon Oyekola who is an ardent supporter of and a very loyal politician to Governor Seyi Makinde said, his decision to resign from the PDP followed an extensive consultation and support of his leader, Governor Makinde, on his strong political belief and ideology.
The resignation letter dated 5th May, 2026 was addressed to the PDP Chairman, Ward 06, Agunpopo 2, Oyo, Atiba Local Government Area of the State, marking a significant political development and realignment within his Constituency and the State as a whole.

“The crisis rocking the Party has not only negatively affected my assignment as a Lawmaker, but has also created a deep crack in the leadership of the Party, thereby hindering my ability to effectively serve the people of my Constituency” the letter reads.
The Grassroots Politician, reiterated his loyalty to Governor Makinde and Atiba Constituents, saying their support have been encouraging since his emergence at the 2023 Elections.
Hon. Oyekola thanked the leadership of the PDP that believed in Governor Seyi Makinde, GSM, at the National, State, Local Government and Ward levels for the opportunity and support given to him.
The Lawmaker gave assurance that his next political move would be announced in due course.
The Oyo Assembly Chief Whip stressed his continued commitment to deepening democratic processes that will be of interest to his people.
