Following recent unrest caused by factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Osun State, their activities in motor parks across the state has been suspended.
The State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke announced the suspension via a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
The Governor, who said the suspension is with immediate effect, explained that the order is as a result of decision taken at a meeting of the Osun State Security Council.
Adeleke said the step was necessary to restore order and sanity to motor parks and strengthen public security.
He directed the Police and other security agencies to ensure that all NURTW activities in motor parks across the state are halted immediately.
The Governor, however, stressed that the order does not include the closure of the parks.
He also ordered the suspension of the collection of all levies in the parks and directed security agencies to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the union in any motor park.
To ensure compliance, Governor Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from all security agencies operating in the state.
