Soun Commiserates With Makinde, Olubadan, Parents Of Ibadan Funfair Tragedy

The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege 111 has expressed grief and sent condolences to the Oyo State governor Engr. Seyi Makinde over the unfortunate narratives culminating in the death of over 35 minors during a children’s funfair carnival in Ibadan Wednesday.

This is contained in a statement signed by the monarch and made available by Rev’d Peter Olaleye, special assistant to the Oba on media and community relations.

Equally, Oba Ghandi sympathised with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olakulehin Owolabi, lamenting such an “unfortunate incident as loss of subjects is heartbreaking and unfortunate.”

He prayed for “divine intervention and protection over the ancient city” while enjoining Olubadan “to take heart that God shall avert further unkind occurrences in all our domains.”

The Soun similarly enjoined parents and guardians of the victims “to be comforted divinely praying God in His infinite mercies shall comfort them and replace their bundle of joy.”

He pleaded with medical personnel to double their efforts on the injured victims so as to save more lives, wishing the victims quick recovery.

The Oba of Ogbomoso, who is currently celebrating his first coronation anniversary, thanked Governor Makinde and other stakeholders “for their prompt responses and interventions when the emergency arose. This helped to avert further casualties.”

He therefore advised the organisers of such events to be more proactive in the future.

He also praised security personnel for preventing hoodlums from taking advantage of the unfortunate situation.
