Bye Election: Police Arrest 2 INEC Officials in Ogun

Two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have been arrested at Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, during the bye election to fill the vacant Sagamu/Iperu/Remo North Federal Constituency seat.
Also, a driver was arrested.
Confirming the arrests, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola said the suspects were intercepted around 12:45 a.m. in a Mitsubishi Spacewagon with two and a half million naira in cash.
The PPRO claimed that one of the officials had confessed during interrogation, that the money was collected from a hotel in Iperu on the directive of a supervisor.
She disclosed that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo had directed that the suspects should be transferred to the State CID, Eleweran, for discreet investigation.
The police spokesperson also assured the public of continuous monitoring of the election and promised to provide further updates on the investigations.
