Over 28 Agric Projects Ongoing In 8 Farm Settlements – Ogun Govt

As part of its efforts to boost Food Security and Economic Prosperity, Ogun State Government has declared that more than 28 Agricultural projects are ongoing in eight farm settlements.
This was made known by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Bolu Owootomo, while speaking at a programmme on scaling the Gender Action Learning System, GALS, organised by the State Value Chain Development Programme in Abeokuta, the State Capital.
Mr. Owootomo maintained that, the Value Chain Development Programme had recorded successes, with more than 17,000 farmers benefiting from the programme across the affected eight Local Government Areas
The Commissioner promised the government’s readiness to sustain and scale up the Value Chain Development Programme’s impact in the bid to strengthen food security.
The National Programme Coordinator, Dr. Fatimah Aliyu, represented by the Knowledge Management Advisor on VCDP, Mrs. Vera Onyeaka-Onyilo, said the dialogue was to enable stakeholders to drive policies to promote agriculture, livelihoods, and rural empowerment.
Dr Aliyu also acknowledged the need for capacity building among farmers to achieve food sufficiency in the state.
In a remark, the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Mr. Owoade Waliu, pledged legislative backing for gender-related initiatives.
Earlier, the Acting State Programme Coordinator, Mrs. Abiola Adewole-Sobukola had explained that the dialogue was organized to chart ways of sustaining the gains of VCDP.
Other speakers at the event renewed their pledge to champion the initiative for the benefit of more farmers towards promoting a stronger society.
