Indian Court Sentences Nigerian Man To 10 Years Imprisonment

A special court sitting in Coimbatore in India has convicted one Nigerian, Samson Chukwunonso to 10 years imprisonment over drug trafficking..
The agency reports that the case dated back to July 2012 when operatives of the Narcotics Control Bureau , Chennai unit intercepted three parcels at a courier office and discovered 1.195kg of heroin and 200 grams of methaqualone worth more than $240,000 in the international market.
The report disclosed that further findings traced the consignment to 40-year-old Samson, who was purportedly living illegally in Erode.
A raid on his residence by the officers led to the recovery of four kilograms of ganja, which led to his subsequent arrest by the NCB in September 2012.
“Upon questioning him, it was revealed that Samson had arranged to send narcotic drugs abroad through courier services and was involved in international drug trafficking. NCB officers arrested Samson in September 2012,” the report reads.
According to The Times of India, on Saturday, September 20, Samson was arraigned before the Special Judge for the Essential Commodities Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Justice Rajalingam.
“The sentencing comes at a time when several Nigerians have been implicated in crimes across Asia, often linked to drugs and transnational criminal networks.
It would be recalled in August, 2025 that police in Kozhikode City, India, apprehended eight Nigerians for alleged drug trafficking.,The suspects were believed to play key roles in a larger drug syndicate with tentacles spread across India.
