NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel Gets New Executives As Banjo Re-emerges Chairman

Controller, News and Current Affairs Department at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Comrade Oluwakayode Banjo has been re-elected as the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FRCN Ibadan Chapel.

Comrade Banjo re-emerged as the Chairman of the chapel unopposed after a stellar performance in his first term in office.

Comrade Banjo, alongside other newly elected executives, were inaugurated by the NUJ Chairman, Oyo State Council, Comrade Akeem Abas, at a brief ceremony held at the Studio one, Broadcasting House, Radio Nigeria, Dugbe, Ibadan.

A4O Radio reports that Comrade Rasheedah Makinde also re-emerged as the Vice Chairman, likewise Comrade Olalekan Olayiwola, who was retained as the Financial Secretary of the chapel.

The chapel, however, elected a new secretary, Comrade Olawale Asake, who is succeeding Comrade Opeyemi Olugbenga.

Performing the inauguration, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Abas commended the credentials committee led by Assistant Director, News and Current Affairs Department, FRCN, Comrade Anthonia Akanji for a transparent and just process.

He congratulated the newly inaugurated executives of the chapel and urged them to build on the achievements recorded in the previous tenure.

Mr Abas appreciated the cooperation of the state secretary, Comrade Temidayo Adu and State treasurer, Comrade Moses Morenikeji, both from the FRCN Ibadan Chapel and assured members of more rewarding activities from the council.

Addressing the gathering, a former Chairman of the NUJ, Oyo State Council and Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs Department, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Adewumi Faniran, praised the team spirit among the past executive members and stressed the need to sustain the unity in the new administration.

Mr Faniran cautioned the new executives against external influence and advised them to always consult leaders of the union for proper guidance.

Reading the address of the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Olufemi Fulani titled Leadership as Service: A Renewed Mandate and Higher Responsibilities, Mr Faniran said leadership selection must be based on merit.

He urged the new executives to remain steadfast in sustaining professionalism, while assuring them of the station’s continued support.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of NUJ, FRCN Ibadan Chapel, Comrade Oluwakayode Banjo, said the chapel had raised the bar in professionalism, membership strength, and representation at the state council level.

Comrade Banjo, who appreciated members of the chapel for their support and loyalty, promised to continue to render selfless service and prioritise members’ welfare.
