Osun 2026: APC Stages Protest In Ilesa

Barely one week to Osun State Governorship Election, members and supporters of the opposition party , All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday staged a protest in Ilesa, following an alleged attack during a campaign rally earlier on Saturday morning.

The protesters, who marched through some streets in Ilesa, chanted solidarity and protest songs while demanding urgent intervention by security agencies over what they described as an attack on party members during the rally.

According to the protesters, the campaign was initially peaceful before the alleged incident occurred.

They claimed that some individuals attacked and shot at APC supporters, with some participants reportedly sustaining injuries in the process.

The protesters alleged that the member representing Ilesa West State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly and Chief Whip of the House, Mr Wale Akerele, was involved in the incident.

The allegation has not been verified.

Speaking with journalists, the spokesperson of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Mr Remi Omowaiye, called on the police and other security agencies to thoroughly investigate the allegations and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

He therefore urged the police, DSS and other security agencies to take urgent steps to protect residents, political parties and their supporters, while calling for adequate security arrangements to prevent further violence and ensure a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Osun State.
