Written by on March 18, 2026

The Senegalese Football Federation has described as unfair, the ruling of the Confederation of African Football, CAF Appeal Board to strip its national team of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, AFCON.

In an official statement, the Senegalese Football Federation said the decision was unprecedented, unacceptable and could tarnish the reputation of African Football.

The Federation hinted that it will initiate appeal proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport to challenge the ruling.

“This decision is unfair, unprecedented, unacceptable, and tarnishes the reputation of African football.”

“The Federation will, at the earliest opportunity, initiate appeal proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.”

The Football World has been thrown into disbelief and shock as the Confederation of African Football, CAF, reportedly declares the Atlas Lions of Morocco winner of the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

Recall that the Terenga Lions of Senegal defeated Host Nation Morocco 1-0 in the final game of the tournament, a match that was marred with drama and controversies.

The Senegalese players staged a walk out of the pitch after Morocco were controversially awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game.

It took the intervention of Star Forward Sadio Mane to recall his teammates back to the field for the match to continue.

Few minutes after the restart, Senegal took the lead and were eventually crowned champions of Africa.

However, there is a twist as the CAF appeal board on Tuesday reportedly stripped Senegal of the title and awarded it to Morocco

The CAF Appeal Board decided that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of Morocco.
