New Oyo CP Assumes Office

Mr Olugbenga Abimbola has assumed office as the 49th Commissioner of Police in Oyo State,

He took over leadership of the Oyo State Police Command from AIG Olufemi Haruna, who served as the 48th Commissioner from April 1, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the new police boss is described as a seasoned officer whose career reflects dedication, professionalism, and exemplary leadership.

CP Abimbola holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University and has completed several professional courses at the Police Staff College, Jos, Police College, Kaduna, and the National Institute of Police Studies, with focus on community policing, tactical leadership, and strategic command.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has served in operational, investigative, and administrative roles across Lagos, Delta, Borno, Kano, Yobe, Oyo, Kogi, and Bauchi states. He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and Commissioner of Police in charge of Special Weapons and Tactics at Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Command expresses confidence that his leadership will further strengthen security of lives and property and boost public trust in policing across Oyo State.
