Oyo State Government has ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of all primary schools across four local government areas following a deadly raid on a school community that left a teacher dead and an unconfirmed number of pupils abducted.
The mass closure affects all primary institutions in Oriire, Surulere, Oyo East, and Olorunsogo neighbouring communities.
The directive, issued today by the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board OYOSUBEB, is a pre-emptive measure designed to prevent further attacks and allow security forces to stabilize the region.
The shutdown follows a coordinated assault on LA School and Community Grammar School in the Ahoro-Esinele community, located within the Oriire Local Government.
In a statement tracking the incident, OYOSUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, confirmed that the vacation order was a direct response to the security breach.
”In the interest of safety, the Board has directed all primary schools in neighbouring communities, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire, and Olorunsogo, to immediately vacate their schools until further notice,” Dr. Adeniran stated. “
