I’m Contesting To Reset Nigeria – Makinde Declares After Emergence As APM Presidential Candidate

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has officially unveiled Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following his adoption as the party’s sole aspirant.
Seyi Makinde unveiling which took place at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, had party leaders, supporters and political allies who gathered to endorse the governor’s candidacy in attendance.
Presenting Governor Seyi Makinde as a consensus candidate, APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, described Makinde as a courageous and visionary leader capable of steering the country through its current challenges. He said the party’s decision to present the governor as its consensus candidate reflected confidence in his leadership abilities.

Dantalle also enjoined Nigerians to reject vote-buying and support APM candidates across all elective positions, including the Presidency, governorships and legislative seats.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Makinde said the political understanding behind his emergence remained a broad alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM. He pledged to pursue policies aimed at strengthening governance and restoring public confidence in leadership.
The governor identified insecurity as one of the nation’s most pressing concerns, promising to champion reforms that would decentralize the security system and encourage greater participation by citizens and subnational governments in safeguarding lives and property.
Makinde also outlined economic reforms, including plans to reposition the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) as a more efficient and commercially driven institution. According to him, difficult decisions would be taken to address persistent losses in the nation’s refinery operations.
The ceremony attracted political stakeholders from across the country, including representatives of the PDP, APM state chairmen, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who was represented by his deputy, Mohammed Auwal Jatau.
