Abducted Victims In Eda-Oniyo, Ekiti Regain Freedom As Govt Orders Free Medical Care

Relief has swept through Eda-Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State following the release of members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala, who were abducted during a deadly attack on the church on April 28, 2026.
The victims regained their freedom after spending several weeks in captivity, bringing an end to months of anxiety for their families and the whole community at large.

Ekiti State police command while confirming the release of the victims on Saturday said the victims reportedly gained freedom midnight Friday. .
A senior police officer, who spoke on the development noted that the victims had regained their freedom but declined to provide further details, saying investigations have begun.
He said following their release, the rescued worshippers were taken to the General Hospital in Iye-Ekiti under the escort of security personnel for emergency medical attention and other necessary procedures before they were later referred to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, for comprehensive medical examination and treatment.
Hospital sources who confirmed the health status of the victims disclosed that the surviving victims are in critical physical and emotional condition after enduring several weeks in captivity.
The police explained that , one of the sixteen abducted worshippers, an elderly member of the church, reportedly died while in the kidnappers’ den the development which cast a shadow over the joy of the survivors’ return and left the church community mourning another painful loss.
In the meantime, the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has directed the management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital EKSUTH, in Ado-Ekiti to provide free comprehensive medical screening and treatment for freed kidnap victims of Eda Oniyo Ekiti
The Governor also instructed the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to take full responsibility for overseeing the welfare and wellbeing of the victims, with the State Government covering all medical expenses incurred during their treatment.
While restating his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Governor urged individuals politicizing the unfortunate incident on social media to desist and collaborate with the government in building a safer and more prosperous State.
In a statement in Ado Ekiti, the Governor also extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of one of the victims who tragically lost his life while in captivity.
The rescued victims are currently receiving care at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital and will remain under medical supervision until they are certified fit for reintegration with their families.
