A foremost Educationist and passionate advocate for inclusive education, Yeye Afolashade Shona-Aluko, has celebrated teachers across Nigeria, describing them as nation-builders whose contributions remain critical to the development of society.
In her Teachers’ Day message, Yeye Shona-Aluko acknowledged the unique challenges faced by teachers, particularly those working in special schools, noting that teaching goes beyond classroom instruction to include mentorship, compassion, character-building and the discovery of the potential in every child.
Yeye Shona-Aluko, who has consistently demonstrated a strong passion for special schools and the welfare of teachers working with children with disabilities and other vulnerable learners, praised them for their patience, dedication and sacrifices in shaping the lives of young people.
She said teachers in special schools deserve special recognition because of the additional commitment required to support learners with diverse educational and developmental needs.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and fulfil his or her potential, and teachers are at the heart of making this possible. Those who dedicate themselves to teaching children with special needs demonstrate not only professionalism but extraordinary patience, compassion and love.” Yeye Shona-Aluko added.
The educationist called for greater investment in teachers through improved working conditions, regular training, adequate teaching and learning materials, and stronger institutional support for special schools.
She stressed that a society that values education must equally value and empower those who deliver it, adding that teachers should be encouraged to see their profession as a noble responsibility capable of transforming generations.
Yeye Shona-Aluko also urged parents, governments, private organisations and other stakeholders to collaborate with teachers in creating an inclusive educational environment where no child is left behind because of disability, social circumstances or other barriers.
She expressed appreciation to teachers who continue to give their best despite prevailing challenges, assuring them that their efforts and sacrifices are making a lasting difference in the lives of their students and in the future of the nation.
She therefore congratulated teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, praying that they would continue to find fulfilment, recognition and support in their noble profession.
The celebration further underscores Yeye Afolashade Shona-Aluko’s commitment to promoting education, inclusion and opportunities for vulnerable members of society, particularly children in special schools
