A coalition of former local government councilors from the Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State has officially re-affirmed its unalloyed support for Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential flagbearer of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), along with the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Oyo North senatorial candidate, Hon. Shina Peller, and all APM candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The re-affirmation was made Thursday during a strategic high-level visit and meeting at the Iseyin residence of the Ayedero of Yorubaland, Hon. Shina Peller,
The political gathering, which brought together key stakeholders and grassroots representatives who served between 2021 and 2024, saw an overwhelming majority of 65 out of the 105 former councilors across the region stand united at the residence to clear the air.
Setting the tone for the robust endorsement, Hon. Salau Nurudeen Alowonle, representing Ward 10, Owode Ipapo, in the Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, directly addressed a recent piece of news that the entire body had defected from the APM to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Describing the claim as falsehood, Hon. Alowonle clarified that out of the former councilors in the region, a solid 65 remain firmly rooted in the APM, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Governor Makinde.
He emphasized that the minority group representing only 35 individuals does not speak for the collective majority of Oke-Ogun.
Echoing these sentiments, Hon. Abiola Khaleed Olaosepin who served as the Chief Whip, took the floor to further dismiss the claim as propaganda.
He reiterated that their steadfast alignment with Governor Makinde, Hon. Adekanmbi, Hon. Peller and all APM candidates is unshakable, despite attempts by detractors to distort facts. He noted that the coalition is fully prepared to deploy its extensive political structures and grassroots influence to ensure a sweeping victory at the polls.
Further amplifying the message of unity, another prominent stakeholder, Hon. Oyewola Kemi, urged party members to ignore the noise from the opposition, stressing that the mobilization of the 65 ex-councilors represents a genuine and formidable block that will secure resounding electoral success for all APM candidates.
Responding to the overwhelming display of solidarity, the host, Hon. Shina Peller, expressed deep appreciation to the former councilors. He thanked them sincerely for their steadfastness and for publicly re-affirming their support for Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, himself and all other APM candidates, noting that their dedication is a vital pillar for progressive development in the region, Oyo state and Nigeria at large.
Seizing the microphone to address political adversaries, Hon. Peller characterized APC as a party completely out of touch with the realities and yearnings of the people, stating that it has nothing tangible to offer Nigerians.
Describing the departure of 35 defectors as a blessing in disguise, he emphasized that genuine strength belongs to the steadfast majority of 65 councilors who prioritized principle, positioning the APM as a robust vehicle built on genuine service and a mandate to rescue Nigeria.
The high-stakes strategic meeting concluded with a collective vote of confidence passed on the leadership of Governor Makinde and the incoming political architecture of the APM.
