Ibadan Stampede: “We Must Learn From This Tragedy” – Providence Coalition President, Niran Adeyoju SDM

Written by on December 20, 2024

President of the Providence Coalition, a socio-political group in Oyo state, Prince Niran Adeyoju, has expressed his deepest sympathy to the people of Ibadan and the families who lost their children in the tragic stampede at a Christmas Funfair organized by an NGO earlier this week.

In a statement released through the publicity secretary of the coalition, Elder David Oluokun, Prince Adeyoju conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and prayed that God should console the families.

He said “It is with profound sadness that we learn of the untimely deaths of these innocent children, who were full of joy and hope as they attended a festive occasion meant to celebrate the season,”.

The tragic event unfolded on Wednesday morning during the much-anticipated Christmas Funfair, when a large crowd gathered at the venue, leading to a stampede that claimed the lives of several children.

Witnesses reported chaos as the crowd surged uncontrollably, resulting in crushing injuries and multiple fatalities. In addition to the fatalities, dozens were injured, sparking widespread panic and grief across the state.

Prince Adeyoju, who is known for his advocacy for children’s rights and welfare, called for an immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to the stampede.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future, calling on authorities and event organizers to prioritize safety at public gatherings, particularly those involving children.

“We must learn from this tragedy and take all necessary measures to prevent such a heart-wrenching incident from ever happening again,” Adeyoju remarked.

“The loss of these children is a blow to our collective spirit, and it is crucial that we work together as a society to ensure safety at public events, and to provide proper support for the grieving families during this difficult time.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected, and we stand in solidarity with them as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy,” he said.
