Osun House Of Assembly Condemns Sealing Of Amotekun’s Office

Osun State House of Assembly has ordered immediate unsealing of Amotekun Corps operational offices to allow the network to continue its statutory responsibilities.
The Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun stated this in Osogbo.
Prince Egbedun who described the sealing of the Amotekun Corps offices as unlawful said the Amotekun Corps remained a constitutionally established agency of the Osun State Government ,noting that no individual organisations had authority to shut it down without a legislative revocation.
“Amotekun Corps remains a lawfully established and functional agency of the Osun State Government and no individual, political actor or security institution possesses the constitutional authority to shut it down without a legislative revocation.”Egbedun said.
The Osun Speaker described the action as constitutionally offensive that an agency created by law and funded by the State Government could be shut down without due process, consultation with the State Government or the House of Assembly which enacted its enabling legislation.
The speaker while empathizing with affected people of Akinlalu, over the recent incident involving security operations,noted that allegations of wrongdoing should be investigated transparently and in accordance with the law.
“That, while the House does not condone misconduct or impunity by any security organisation, allegations of wrongdoing must be investigated transparently and in accordance with the law and must not be used as a smokescreen to sabotage duly constituted institutions.” He added .
On the 30th of September alleged misconduct by three Amotekun officers resulted in the death of some residents of Akinlalu town, Osun State.
