Nigeria Beat Lesotho To Keep World Cup Hopes Alive

Super Eagles of Nigeria yesterday (Friday) defeated Lesotho 2-1 to keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive.
The Group C 2026 World Cup qualifiers encounter was played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane city, South Africa.
Captain Williams Troost-Ekong gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 55th minute from the penalty spot before substitute Akor Adams made it 2-0 in the 80th minute.
Three minutes later, Lesotho pulled one back to reduce the deficit, but Nigeria held on to secure the much needed victory to keep their hopes of playing in next year’s world cup alive.
Nigeria remain in 3rd position in the Group with 14 points behind Benin Republic, who are on top of the log with 17 points and South Africa in 2nd position with 15 points.
Nigeria’s final game in the qualifiers is against Benin Republic next week Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state at five o’clock in the evening.
