Court Arraigns Suspects Linked To Murder Of LG Chairman In Osun

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has arraigned four suspects purportedly involved in the killing of the late Irewole local government area chairman Mr. Remi Abass
The suspects including Abubakar Kabiru 38, Tajudeen Opeyemi 30, Akeem Agbomojo 28, and Akintoye Olayemi 40 all from Ikire and Apomu in Osun State, appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik in the court on Wednesday.
They faced a four count charge bothering on terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and murder, following Abass’s killing on 17th February, 2024, in Ikire, Osun State.
The prosecutor was represented by A. S. Oyeyemi on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, while Sunday Adebayo appeared for the defendants.
The amended charge, numbered FHC/ABJ/CR/170/2025, contains three counts. Count One alleges conspiracy, aiding, and instigation of acts of terrorism across Osun State, contrary to the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Count Two charges the defendants with illegal possession of three pump-action rifles, contrary to the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004. Count Three alleges the murder of Abass, contrary to Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Act, 2004.
The suspects pleaded not guilty while Justice Abdulmalik ordered them remanded at the Kuje Custodial Centre.
The case has been adjourned till 4th December 2025, for hearing, following an agreement by counsel.
It would be recalled that the killing of Mr Abass is linked to political tensions between the All Progressives Congress , APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over local government control in Osun state.
