OYSIEC Fixes Date For Local Government Polls

Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, has announced that Local Government elections across the 33 Council Areas of the State will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2027.
Chairman of the Commission, Dr Babatunde Adeniyi made the announcement during his inaugural meeting with the Members of Management of the Commission at the OYSIEC Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, the State Capital.
While assuring all the residents that, the Commission would conduct peaceful, free, fair and credible election, the OYSIEC Chairman said, the election would be conducted in all the polling units across in all the Local Government Areas on the announced that between 8 o’clock in the morning and 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
Also, the Chairman added that, every electioneering campaigns shall end by midnight, Friday 15th January, 2027, while re-run election will hold on Saturday, 23 January, 2027 if the need arises.
According to him, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission is empowered by Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended), to issue notice for the election not later than three hundred and sixty days before the date of the election.
He enjoined relevant stakeholder and every citizen to support the Commission in its readiness to organize and conduct well acceptable election next year.
