Written by on April 22, 2026

The Presidency has dispelled rumors of a cabinet purge, noting that Finance Minister, Wale Edun and Housing Minister, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa resigned their positions voluntarily.

The transition was marked by a formal departure for Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who submitted his resignation on Monday to coincide with his 70th birthday.

Edun stated in his letter to President Tinubu that it had been a privilege to serve under the “Renewed Hope” agenda, asserting that the nation has gained significant international respect during his tenure.

On his part, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, also stepped down from his role as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Dangiwa, who had served as the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, expressed his appreciation to the President for the opportunity to have served in the Federal Executive Council since August 2023.

Meanwhile,President Tinubu has tapped Taiwo Oyedele to take the helm at the Ministry of Finance, charging him with the task of consolidating fiscal reforms through renewed discipline and innovation.

The President is to present Muttaqha Rabe Darma to the Senate as the nominee to succeed Dangiwa in the housing portfolio.

In a remark, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga stated that the President remains deeply grateful for the dedicated service of the outgoing ministers and their contributions to the country’s economic reform programs.
