A late-night cooking gas explosion almost resulted in a tale of woes for a widow at the Cele community in Oyo West Local Government Area.
The explosion sparked a fierce blaze that threatened to consume the residential property.
The inferno, which broke out within a large residential compound, sent shockwaves through the neighborhood as flames quickly began to consume the structure.
The witness’s account indicates that the fire was fuelled by a cylinder blast.
The building was saved from total destruction by the timely intervention of government firefighters. Their rapid arrival and containment of the blaze prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring houses in the densely populated area.
Despite the severity of the explosion and the resulting damage to the property, no casualties were recorded.
Mama Odekanyin, an elderly occupant of the home who narrowly escaped the flames, appealed to regulatory agencies to tighten safety standards on home appliances.
”We need the relevant authorities to ensure that the equipment we use in our homes meets safety requirements,” one resident noted. This disaster was a wake-up call to the dangers of compromised standards.”
