AMCI Shows Concern Over Oriire School Abductions, Demands Swift Government Intervention

Written by on May 24, 2026

The Alabidun Muslim Community (AMCI),New Airport, Alakia, Ibadan, has expressed deep concern and outright condemnation over the recent bandit attacks and mass abduction of pupils, students, and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The Islamic organization described the coordinated invasions of Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, alongside Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, as a horrific assault on education, humanity, and the peace of Oyo State.

The group expressed its position in a joint press statement signed by the AMCI Chairman, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, and the Secretary, Mallam Mikhail Atobajaye, issued following an emergency meeting of the community’s Executive Committee in Ibadan.

In the statement, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu lamented the tragic loss of lives during the incident, including the reported killing and brutal beheading of a mathematics teacher, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, who has been buried on Friday and another teacher, Adesiyan Adegboye.

He stressed that turning classrooms into hunting grounds for criminals is an unacceptable threat to the state’s future.

“We are deeply heartbroken by this barbaric act. Seeking knowledge is a sacred obligation in Islam, and our schools must remain safe havens for learning, not places of trauma and terror,” Dr. Tiamiyu stated.

“The Executive Committee stands in full solidarity with the affected families, the Ogbomoso axis, and the entire people of Oriire Local Government Area during this dark period.”

Adding to the Chairman’s remarks, the AMCI Secretary, Mallam Mikhail Atobajaye, urged the Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, and federal security agencies to intensify ongoing tactical operations.

While noting the efforts of the Oyo State Police Command as explained by the Oyo State PPRO, Olayinka Ayanlade on a monitored Radio Programme in Ibadan, Mallam Atobajaye emphasized that the primary goal must be the safe and immediate immediate rescue of the estimated 39 students and remaining school officials still held in captivity.

“We acknowledge that security operatives have reportedly sealed escape routes around the Old Oyo National Park corridor. However, time is of the essence,” Atobajaye stated. “We call on the Inspector-General of Police and military high commands to deploy more permanent assets and rural surveillance to border communities in Oyo State to prevent future breaches.

“Prayers for the VictimsThe executive statement concluded with a call to the entire Muslim Ummah and all well-meaning residents of Oyo State to offer special prayers for the safe return of the children and their educators, and for divine comfort to heal the families of the deceased victims.
