Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares Wednesday And Thursday As Public Holidays

Written by on May 25, 2026

Muslims across Nigeria will enjoy a two-day public holiday as the Federal Government declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, work-free days for the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

The declaration was announced on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

The government said the holidays are in honour of the Eid-ul-Adha festival, one of the most important celebrations in Islam, observed by millions of Muslims worldwide.

While congratulating Muslim faithful in Nigeria and abroad, Tunji-Ojo described the festival as a period that promotes sacrifice, faith, obedience and compassion for humanity.

He encouraged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the nation’s peace, stability and development, noting that collective prayers and unity remain vital to national growth.

The minister also urged citizens to promote harmony, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence during and after the celebration.
