Residents of Ede town Osun State were thrown into panic following a deadly attack linked to suspected cult activities, which claimed the life of an unidentified man at a student residence on Tuesday night.
The incident reportedly occurred at an off-campus apartment occupied by students, where armed attackers allegedly invaded the building and assaulted several occupants with dangerous weapons.
Witnesses said the violence created tension within the community as residents scampered for safety.
Sources disclosed that about six students sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack, while one victim was confirmed dead shortly after the incident.
The identity of the deceased had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command had launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, security sources hinted that the clash may not be unconnected with the lingering rivalry among suspected cult groups operating around Ede.
Residents have since appealed to security agencies to strengthen surveillance around student communities to prevent further violence.
