Police Arrest 2 For False Kidnap Claim In Oyo State

Two residents of Oyo State have landed in police custody over the circulation of a false alarm claiming that bandits attacked Lamini Community in Ido Local Government Area and killed six people.
The fake news which spread rapidly through WhatsApp voice notes and other social media channels, caused apprehension among residents and prompted concerns about security in the area.
In a swift response, the Oyo State Police Command deployed security personnel to Lamini and neighbouring communities to verify the report.
Investigations, however, showed that no such attack occurred and that the reported killings were completely unfounded.
Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said intelligence and forensic investigations traced the viral voice note to Pastor Amos Joel-Muyiwa, who has been arrested.
He reportedly confessed to creating and sharing the message without confirming its authenticity.
Further inquiries led to the arrest of Mulikat Bashiru, who was identified as the source of the false information within the community.
The command therefore warned residents against spreading unverified information, stressing that fake news and misinformation pose serious threats to public safety.
