Comparing Adelabu’s Sister Abduction With Oriire Incident Is Wrong – Presidency
Written by News Desk on June 7, 2026
The Presidency has defended the security agencies’ handling of recent abduction cases in Oyo State following public concerns and criticism over the quick rescue of the sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, while schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Ogbomoso are yet to regain their freedom.
Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said it would be unfair to compare the two incidents, noting that they involve different criminal networks and security challenges.
Ajayi explained that the Adelabu family members were kidnapped by criminals operating within an urban setting, a factor he said made intelligence gathering and rescue operations easier for security operatives.
In contrast, he noted that the abduction of the Ogbomoso schoolchildren and their teachers is believed to have been carried out by armed groups hiding in remote forest locations, making rescue efforts more complex and requiring different operational strategies.
He emphasized that security agencies assess each case based on available intelligence, geographical conditions, and the nature of the suspects involved before deploying appropriate tactics.
The Presidential aide maintained that both incidents are receiving adequate attention from relevant authorities, dismissing suggestions that any case is being treated with greater priority than another.
Ajayi further reassured affected families and the public that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the remaining victims, while calling on Nigerians to remain patient and continue to support security agencies in their operations.
