Following a series of attacks by suspected armed bandits on major roads, the Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the state government to strengthen security operations across the Oke-Ogun region.
The Lawmakers made the call during plenary on Wednesday while considering a Matter of Urgent Public Importance jointly sponsored by the Minority Leader and member representing Irepo/Olorunsogo State Constituency, Mr. Waliu Salami, and the member representing Oorelope State Constituency, Mr. Luqman Jimoh.
The Assembly expressed displeasure over the growing insecurity in parts of Oke-Ogun, particularly along the Kishi-Igbeti and Igboho-Igbeti roads, warning that the recurring attacks pose a serious threat to residents, security architecture, commuters and economic activities in the region.
Members recalled the June 12, 2026 attack on the Kishi-Igbeti Road, during which suspected bandits reportedly ambushed travellers, killing Mr. Moshood Kayode, an employee of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), while several others sustained injuries.
The lawmakers also highlighted the increasing activities of criminal elements within forest areas surrounding the Old Oyo National Park, noting that the corridor has become notorious for kidnapping, killings and other violent activities
The House called on Governor Seyi Makinde to provide additional funding and logistical support to local governments within the affected corridor, especially Irepo, Olorunsogo and Oorelope Local Government Areas, to enhance the operations of Amotekun, vigilante groups and hunters.
The Assembly further urged the governor to direct the Executive Assistant on Security to facilitate the establishment of more security checkpoints, intensify patrols and deploy additional security personnel to the Kishi-Igbeti and Igboho-Igbeti roads and other identified flashpoints across the Oke-Ogun axis.
