The Allied People’s Movement (APM) and its political partner, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have called for unity among their members following the emergence of Mr Muftau Open-Salawu as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State Governorship election.
The call was made on Wednesday at the official unveiling of Open-Salawu held at the APM Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, where the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi, formally presented him as his running mate.
Speaking at the event, the APM governorship candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi explained that the choice of Open-Salawu was aimed at strengthening the alliance’s campaign and ensuring continuity of the development programmes being implemented by Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
He further noted that the task of governing the state requires a capable and experienced team, expressing confidence that the combination of their professional backgrounds in finance and engineering would enhance service delivery and development across Oyo State.
In his acceptance speech, Open-Salawu appealed to aggrieved members of both parties to put aside their differences and work together towards securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
He also thanked the leadership of the parties for finding him worthy of the position.
Leaders of the allied parties and elder statesmen who attended the event similarly urged members to remain committed to the alliance and mobilise support ahead of the general election.
Open-Salawu, a native of Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, is a civil engineer born on May 10, 1973, with extensive experience in public service.
