Protest Rocks Uniosun As Students Accuse Army Officers Of Assault

A cross section of Osun State University UNIOSUN students Osogbo campus have allegedly been subjected to an ugly ordeal after some newly recruited Nigerian Army personnel invaded their hostels on Monday night.
It was reported that the recruits who were said to be from the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo, had earlier visited areas around the students’ community under the guise of relaxing at entertainment centres before they were allegedly assaulted.
Eye witnesses confirmed that some of the recruits harassed the concerned students on Monday night and demanded money transfers into designated bank accounts.
The assault , which later later escalated when the recruits allegedly stormed about 20 student hostels, including Cristalag and Kings and Queens hostels, where they reportedly unleashed terror and violence on the affected students of UNIOSUN University..
While the incident lasted , some female students were allegedly asked to strip and sexually assaulted, while male students claimed they were beaten to stupor.
In his reaction to the ugly incident, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Professor Clement Adebooye sternly decried the incident, describing it as barbaric and socially unacceptable
Meanwhile, students of the Osogbo Main campus of UNIOSUN on Tuesday staged a protest to express their displeasure over what they described as barbaric behaviour of the army recruits.
Their protest was taken along Ibokun road, Osogbo while they displayed placards with various inscriptions.
Giving clarification on the incident , a source who preferred anonymity from the Nigerian Army Osogbo depot explained that investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the incident, noting that an official statement will be released to that effect.
