Big Blow For APC As Popular Osun Politician Dumps Party
Written by News Desk on July 13, 2026
Chief (Dr.) Peter Taiwo Ogundeji, popularly known as APATA, and a number of his associates have resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the political landscape guessing about their next political move.
In a resignation letter addressed to his Ward Chairman and a statement issued by his Media and Communications Office, the influential Osun West politician says he will unveil his next political platform after concluding consultations with stakeholders.
The development is expected to generate fresh political interest across Osun State, where APATA commands a significant grassroots following through years of humanitarian interventions, youth empowerment initiatives, educational support, healthcare programmes and community development projects.
The move has also triggered an early wave of exits within the APATA political family. Coordinators of the APATA Movement in all 10 Local Government Areas of Osun West Senatorial District have resigned from the APC and reaffirmed their loyalty to their principal, Chief Peter Taiwo Ogundeji (APATA).
Several other associates have also tendered their resignation letters, with more expected in the coming days as consultations continue within the political structure.
The statement says the decision follows extensive consultations with community leaders, supporters, family members and other key stakeholders.
It adds that the resignation is neither motivated by anger nor bitterness but reflects a carefully considered decision to pursue “a new political direction” consistent with APATA’s ideals of selfless service, justice, equity and inclusive leadership.
APATA says his commitment to the development of Osun State, particularly Osun West Senatorial District, remains unwavering despite leaving the APC.
He urges members of the APATA political family and the general public to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting a formal announcement on the next phase of his political activities.
The statement also expresses appreciation to the APC leadership at Ward, Local Government, State and National levels, as well as party members with whom he shared years of political association. It equally thanks his supporters, coordinators and volunteers for their loyalty and sacrifices over the years.
While speculation continues over APATA’s next political move, his Media and Communications Office says a formal announcement will be made at the appropriate time.
