Gunmen Kill Woman During Attempt To Kidnap Husband In Oyo

Gunmen have reportedly killed a woman and left her husband seriously injured following an alleged failed abduction attempt in Baasi, Atisbo Local Government area of Oyo State.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, has thrown residents of the community into apprehensions and raised fresh concerns over security situation in the area.
The attackers, said to be about three in number, purportedly bombarded the residence of their target, 46-year-old Alhaji Saleh Seidu, a native of Siroro Local Government Area of Niger State who had settled in Baasi and allegedly gained entry into his house through the back door and attempted to forcefully take Seidu away.
Alhaji Saleh Seidu, however, resisted the attackers and struggled to escape from them.
During the ensuing confusion, one of his wives allegedly attempted to open the entrance door, but was shot by the gunmen, while she died instantly from the gunshot wound.
Seidu sustained serious injuries in the course of the attack and was later rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
One of Seidu’s sons, Shuaibu Saleh, who recounted the incident, confirmed that the assailants were about three in number.
Reacting to the incident, the Baasi Community Chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Ashafa, who spoke on behalf of the Onibaasi of Baasi, Oba Azeez Babatunde, expressed shock over the attack,. noting that the community had begun taking steps to strengthen security and avert a recurrence.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements to security agencies.
