Oyo Govt Declares Holiday For Isese Day

Oyo State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a work-free day to allow residents to commemorate this year’s Isese Day and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and traditional values of the Yoruba people.
The declaration was conveyed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, on behalf of the Governor Engr Seyi Makinde.
The Government who felicitated adherents of African Traditional Religion in Oyo State, Nigeria and beyond, wished them a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling celebration.
The Government said his administration remained committed to ensuring fairness and inclusiveness among followers of different religious beliefs.
It further appreciated traditional worshippers across Oyo state for their support and contributions to his administration over the past seven years.
According to the government, the work-free day is intended to give workers and residents the opportunity to participate fully in Isese Day activities while also using the occasion to pray for peace, unity and stability in Oyo State and Nigeria.
The Isese Day celebration was introduced by the Makinde administration as part of efforts to recognise and preserve Yoruba traditional heritage while promoting cultural tourism.
