Uber Leaves Nigeria

Written by on September 2, 2026

Ride-hailing giant Uber has announced the closure of its operations in Nigeria, bringing to an end its 12-year presence and operations in the country.

The company while disclosing this on Wednesday said its decision takes effect from September 2, 2026.

It described the decision as a difficult one reached after a thorough review of its business operations in Nigeria

Recall that the company first launched its services in Lagos in 2014 and subsequently became one of the major players in Nigeria’s growing ride-hailing industry in transportation sector.

It has over the years connected millions of riders with independent drivers across its areas of operation in Nigeria.

The company’s exit marks a significant development in Nigeria’s ride-hailing sector, where Uber had competed with other major platforms for more than a decade.
