Tension has gripped Ita-Olokan area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, following a clash between rival groups which reportedly claimed the life of a man identified as Taoheed Ojoiku.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, throwing the area into confusion as residents reportedly scampered to safety.
A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, the trouble started at about half past Nine in the morning, when members of the rival groups allegedly engaged in a confrontation.
According to the resident, Ojoiku was rushed to a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries during the clash, where he was, however, confirmed dead by medical personnel.
A visit to the Ita-Olokan area showed a heavy presence of Police personnel, who were deployed to the area in an effort to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Mr Abiodun Ojelabi, for confirmation and further details about the incident were unsuccessful.
The latest incident is coming barely two days after two persons were reportedly killed by suspected cultists at the Owo-Eba area of Osogbo on Friday.
The recurrence of violent clashes in parts of the state capital has continued to raise concerns among residents over the security situation and the need for stronger measures to prevent further loss of lives.
