3 Die As Convocation Party Turns Bloody In Ekiti

A convocation party in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State did not go as planned as what was supposed to be a joyous night became a black one.
Some students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, (BOUESTI), had checked in at Emirate Hotel in Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday for their convocation party.
However, during the party, which lasted till the early hours of the following day, two yet-to-be-identified students had an argument that degenerated into a fight.
Other guests reportedly ran out of the hotel premises in panic, resulting in a stampede that led to the death of three persons including two of the students and a staff of the hotel.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
However, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on April 19, 2026.
The statement notes that Preliminary investigation revealed that the students had moved to the hotel for a party after their convocation on April 18, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police sympathized with the relatives and friends of the victims and called for calm, assuring the public that no stone would be left unturned in the investigation.
SP Abutu added that the Command would provide updates as the investigation progresses.
