Gunmen Invade Kogi, Kill Vice Principal, 6 Year Old Child

Residents of Iluke Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State were thrown into grief on Wednesday after a deadly attack on Government Secondary School claimed the lives of three people, including a vice principal and a six-year-old child.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. when a large group of armed bandits reportedly stormed the community and the school premises. The attackers, said to have arrived on about 40 motorcycles, allegedly targeted the area in what security authorities believe was an attempted abduction operation.

The invasion triggered panic among students, staff, and residents as gunshots rang out across the community. However, security forces already deployed in the area swiftly responded to the threat, engaging the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to the Kogi State Police Command, military personnel and local vigilante operatives joined forces to confront the bandits. The coordinated response forced the attackers to abandon their mission and retreat into nearby bushes.

Police authorities disclosed that one of the bandits was killed during the gun battle, while a member of the joint security team sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Despite initial fears of a large-scale kidnapping, the police said preliminary investigations have not established any evidence of a successful mass abduction of students or residents during the attack. Security agencies are, however, continuing efforts to verify all reports linked to the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed sustained security operations in the area, including intensive bush-combing exercises and confidence-building patrols. Joint security teams remain on the trail of the fleeing suspects as authorities seek to prevent further attacks and restore calm to the affected community.
