Professor Jide Ajidahun of the Department of English Studies, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has unveiled his latest play, titled Strange Bread.
The play, described as a thought-provoking drama, explores the tension between faith, tradition, fear and personal conviction.

Strange Bread follows Aderopo, who is confronted in the stillness of the night with a ritual offering he once accepted without question.
This time, he refuses, a decision that triggers a gripping confrontation between fear and faith, appetite and conviction.
Rooted in Yoruba cosmology, African spirituality and contemporary religious realities, the play examines the unseen forces surrounding sickness, power, faith and survival.
Speaking on the new work, the author said the play interrogates the choices people make and how those choices shape their lives, especially at the intersection of indigenous belief systems and contemporary religious consciousness.
Professor Ajidahun is a Professor of Dramatic Literature and Criticism and former Head of the Department of Performing Arts at AAUA. He is also a poet whose works have received international recognition. He was a finalist in the 2023 IFLAC World Poetry Peace Contest, and his play, Sunset at Lekki, was featured in the 2021 Best New African Poets Anthology.

Published by Gemdove Publishers, Strange Bread is said to be a compelling addition to contemporary Nigerian drama.
