In a bid to rejuvenate the sports sector in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has appointed afrobeat superstar, David Adeleke, affectionately known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The Governor who is an Uncle to the new Appointee made the announcement in Osogbo, The State Capital, saying the move was aimed at ensuring sustainable financing for sports development, improving athletes welfare, and upgrading sports infrastructure across the State.
He explained that the creation of the Sports Trust Fund and a corresponding Sports Commission represents a strategic shift from ad-hoc interventions to a structured, long-term development framework.
”Appointment of Davido is more than just about sports; it’s about youth development, empowerment, and rebranding Osun State on the global stage” the Governor added.
Davido, who hails from Ede in Osun State, is expected to leverage his global influence and network to attract private investments, sponsorships, and partnerships into the state’s sports ecosystem.
The Trust Fund will focus on the rehabilitation of stadiums and training facilities, support for grassroots sports, and welfare programs for athletes.
It also aims to promote transparency in the management of sports-related funds, a sector that has long been plagued by underfunding and neglect.
The Osun Sports Trust Fund and Sports Commission are expected to begin operations before the end of the year, following the inauguration of the two Boards.
