National Assembly Approves Creation Of New State In Nigeria

In a bid to ensure balance, the National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitution Review has approved creation of an additional State in the South-East geo-political zone of the Country.
According to the Committee comprising Members of Senate and House of Representatives, the State when created, will make South-East to be at par with the South-South, South-West, North-Central, and North-East zones with each having six States.
The South-East is the only geo-political zone with five States comprising Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo with the latest being Ebonyi created on October 1, 1996 under the Military Administration of General Sani Abacha.
The North-West Geopolitical Zone has seven States: Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Jigawa.
