Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has commenced plans to boost security operations in the State with the proposed acquisition of new surveillance drones and other modern security equipment aimed at improving and monitoring security situations across the state.
The move followed a series of security meetings presided over by the governor over the past four days, during which the state’s security architecture and operational challenges were extensively reviewed.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson on Wednesday , the meetings revealed that five security drones reportedly procured during the administration of former governor Gboyega Oyetola were not available when the Adeleke administration assumed office in 2022.
The review also unraveled an uncompleted security communication project valued at about N300 million, which was intended to connect the state’s security communication centre with Armoured Personnel Carriers deployed for security operations.
The statement explained that the contract was never executed and that the armoured vehicles were left unused in different locations across the state until the current administration recovered, repaired and returned them to service.
Following the assessment, Governor Adeleke directed security officials to begin processes for acquiring new drones and other technological tools to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response capabilities.
He also reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
